FIDER – Mexico

Training programme on Financing Decentralised Renewable Energy Generation in Mexico

The IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is promoting the 30×30 Zero Mexico programme, which encourages the financing of projects aligned with the country’s NDC targets. Backed by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) through the International Climate Initiative (IKI), it is implemented in partnership with RENAC and the IFC Green Banking Academy.

Objectives

The programme aims to promote the transition of Mexico’s financial sector towards a low-carbon economy by developing technical and financial capabilities that enable an effective and sustainable identification, evaluation, and financing of decentralised renewable energy projects. It fosters the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria into investment decisions, thereby contributing to the expansion of green banking and the achievement of national and international climate goals.

Target groups

Financial sector professionals interested in sustainable finance and renewable energy—such as credit analysts, project specialists, and relations managers.

Activities

Fully funded by IFC through the 30×30 Zero Programme, this project combines online and in-person learning with theoretical training, analysis of practical case studies, virtual expert sessions, and an in-person seminar in Mexico City. Participants gain key tools to evaluate, structure, and finance decentralised renewable energy projects effectively.
