Green Banking – Financing
Green Energy Projects

Capacity building on green energy and climate finance throughout the entire banking value chain.

Green Banking empowers financial institutions, project developers, and decision-makers to finance the energy transition. The programme, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy runs within the German International Climate Initiative (IKI).

Objectives

Green Banking supports partner countries in building the skills  to finance renewable energy, energy efficiency, green hydrogen, and storage projects. The training programmes  focus on sharing practical knowledge to strengthen investment capacities and on connecting stakeholders with international climate finance instruments, such as the Green Climate Fund, to open up new financing opportunities at the local level.

Target Groups

The programme is designed for banks and investors aiming to expand their green portfolios, project developers seeking financing for sustainable energy projects, as well as policy makers involved in shaping financial frameworks for the energy transition.

Activities

Green Banking gives participants hands-on expertise in renewable energy project finance while showing how to access climate funds. Participants learn to develop bankable projects and assess investments. Scholarships support launch events, in-person and online courses, delegation tours in Germany, train-the-trainer workshops, and matchmaking events, connecting participants to global networks and fostering knowledge exchange.
